IMDS DQR Code 227

Issue: Classification 5.5.1 is not allowed

Material classification 5.5.1 Plastics (in polymeric compounds) cannot be used per IMDS Recommendation 001a. The classification is only allowed for legacy data.

In this context, legacy data does not refer to data associated with Legacy Spare Parts. The IMDS Steering Committee members do not have a unanimous agreement on the definition of “legacy” within the context of IMDS Recommendation 001a. Determining what constitutes legacy is considered a decision made between businesses. To adhere to best practices, it is recommended that MDSs for new Post-SCIP (new) component, semi-components, or materials should not include any pre-SCIP MDSs or modules in their tree structure.

Action Required:

Update the material classification to one that is appropriate and currently allowed.

**The EU SCIP database was implemented on January 1, 2021. Legacy data is defined by most OEMs as data created prior to that date. Any MDS for a new part, semi-component, or material introduced into the supply chain after that date should not contain any MDSs created prior to that date.
