Issue: Material does not meet substance requirements for classification 1.1
Materials classed as 1.1 Steels / cast steel / sintered steel must contain at least 50% Iron (Fe, CAS # 7439-89-6) and must not contain more than 2% Carbon (C, CAS # 7440-44-0). The material does not meet one or both of the substance requirements for classification 1.1.
Also note that while 1.1 is a selectable classification, it should ONLY be used if 1.1.1 Unalloyed, low alloyed or 1.1.2 Highly alloyed are not appropriate classifications.
Per IMDS Recommendation 001a* – Sintered metals could be classified as 1.1 if classifications 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 are not appropriate. Sintering is the process of forming objects from a metal powder by heating the powder at a temperature below its melting point. Sintered materials with both metal oxides and metals do not fit in classification 1.1, for example ceramic magnets. Ceramic magnets belong in classification 7.2 Ceramics / glass.
Action Required:
Review the material composition and classification and revise as necessary.
