China Automotive Material Data System (CAMDS) is an online system used by automotive industry suppliers to report material and chemical substance content regarding parts supplied to their customers in response to China's “Recycling and Reutilization Policy of Automotive Product” as promulgated by the National Development and Reform Commission(NDRC), Ministry of Science and Technology( MOST) and State Environmental Protection Administration(SEPA) in 2006. The goals of the policy are similar to those of the EU's ELV Directive. Currently CAMDS usage is limited mostly to those OEMs with a manufacturing presence in China as well as some with a presence in India.
CAMDS allows a supplier to receive material and substance content information on the parts and materials from their sub-suppliers and consolidate this information in order to pass it along the supply chain. The goal of IMDS is for the automotive OEMs to receive a full disclosure of all the substances that are contained within the vehicle as it rolls off the assembly line or hits the show room floor.
The data submitted through CAMDS is placed into a Material Data Sheet (MDS) and submitted to customers. Users familier with IMDS will see great similarity in the CAMDS interface and should be able to navigate and enter data based on their experience with IMDS.
