What are the REACH Proposed SVHCs?

ECHA Registry of Intentions

SVHC is short for substance of very high concern as defined by Article 57 of REACH. The evaluation process for SVHCs follows these steps (all documents are published online at www.echa.europa.eu):
Proposed by EU Member State or European Commission and published in the Registry of Intentions
Dossier prepared by a Member State or ECHA according to instructions in Annex XV
Public consultation for interested parties to submit comments and additional information to ECHA (45 days)
Opinion issued by ECHA Member State Committee
Decision issued by ECHA adding substances to Candidate List
Most SVHC evaluations end with the substance being placed on the Candidate List.
The Registry of Intentions currently lists six substances that will be evaluated as SVHCs (there are also proposals for harmonized classification and labeling and for restricted substances):
Substance name EC number Dossier expected Property
Arsenic acid and its salts index number 033-005-001 Aug 2010 CMR
Coal tar distillates, heavy oils 292-607-4 N/A PBT
Coal tar distillates, heavy oils, pyrene fraction 295-304-5 N/A PBT
Coal tar distillates, pitch, pyrene fraction 295-313-4 N/A PBT
Coal tar residues, pitch distn. 295-507-9 N/A PBT
Trioxochromium 215-607-8 Aug 2010

There are currently no active consultations.
