CPSIA stay is

CPSIA is short for
the US Consumer Product Safety
Improvement Act of 2008. It is administered by the Consumer Product
Safety Commission (CPSC) which provides
extensive information on its website
www.cpsc.gov.

The initial "stay of
enforcement" involving third-party testing
of children's products was issued by CPSC on January 30, 2009: |

CPSIA
requirements for the products themselves
are not affected. All products must meet the limits on lead and
phthalates as scheduled. |
|
|
Third-party
testing for lead paint is still
required for children's products manufactured after December 21, 2008 |
|
|
Third-party testing for lead content is still required for children's
mental jewelry manufactured after March 23, 2009 |
|
|
Third-party
testing for lead or phthalates in all other children's products
was stayed until February 10, 2010 |
|
A
revised stay was issued by CPSC in
December 2009: |

|
General conformity certification for
lead
paint is required for
paint and painted furniture manufactured after February 10,
2010 (i.e. products not
intended for children) |
|
|
Third-party
testing for lead content is
required for all children's products manufactured after February
10, 2011 |
|
|
Third-party testing for phthlates
in children's toys and child care articles is stayed
indefinitely |
|
|
Third-party testing for soluble heavy
metals (lead, antimony, arsenic, barium, cadmium,
chromium, mercury and selenium)
in children's toys is stayed
indefinitely |
